A Study for the Effect of Diabetics¡¯ Locus of Control and Health Beliefs on Sick Role Behavior


Abstract
The purpose of this study was investigate variables influencing on compliance of sick role behavior in light of Health Locus of Control and Health Belief Model and to suggest the scientific base for the health education of Nursing intervention for increasing the level of compliance in diabetics.
The subject of this study was 141 adult Diabetics Mellitus, sampled by criteria of select ion from the outpatient department of 3 general hospitals in Seoul.. The instruments were HLC scale (Wallston and others, 1978) for personality and Health Belief Questionnaire (HBQ} for measuring patients¢¥ health beliefs developed by this researcher.
The Hypotheses were tested, and results are;
1) "The lower scored on the HLC Scale (Scored toward internality), the higher is susceptibility" was not supported(r=.1265, p>. 05).
2) "The lower scored on the HLC Scale (scored toward internality), the "higher is severity" was not supported. (r=. 1160, p>. 05)
3) "The lower scored on the HLC scale (toward internality), the higher is benefit" was not supported (r = -. 0822, p>.05).
4) "The lower scored on the HLC Scale (scored toward internality), the higher is compliance of risk role behavior" was supported(r=-.1416, p<.05).
5) "The higher is susceptibility, the higher is compliance of sick role behavior" was not supported (r=. 0336, p>.05).
6) "The higher is severity, the higher is compliance of sick role behavior" was not supported(r=-.1082, p>.05).
7) "The higher is benefit, the higher is compliance of sick role behavior" was not supported(r=.0988, P>.05).
